There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features many comforts in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
