Cambodia Gambling Dens
October 6th, 2023 by Valentin

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that contains many luxuries accompanying the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
