There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains many conveniences aside from the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 tables.
