Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel building that highlights many comforts aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
