There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that features many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
